As area gas stations and convenience stores start running out of gas, the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (FWTA) is ready to step in to help residents and visitors get around. Our area has seen a large influx of people who have temporarily relocated because of the damage caused by Hurricane Harvey, and now is a critical time for them to have transportation options.
“Our service will not be impacted by the gas shortage because 100 percent of our fleet is fueled by compressed natural gas (CNG),” said Paul Ballard, president/CEO. “We will continue to operate to help our community get where they need to go. We have many park and ride locations around town for riders utilizing our bus system or the Trinity Railway Express (TRE).”
To help visitors and others who want to ride public transportation, FWTA is offering extended customer service hours for the next two weeks and additional personnel to assist riders.
“We wish we could also increase the number of buses on the road, but have a limited amount of resources,” Ballard said. “To fully serve a region of this size, we need to have additional funding sources.”
The potential gas crisis provides an opportunity for those in the community who have not ridden on public transit to give it a try. With more than 40 routes and 2,000 stops throughout the system, riders can get to many destinations. The online maps and schedules provide useful information in planning a trip.
