Trinity Metro is monitoring conditions and actively planning for winter weather predicted to arrive in North Texas later this week.
As always, we will do our best to keep as many transportation services operating as long as it is safe to do so. Operations supervisors will try to follow regular routes when possible, but icy or snowy conditions may affect some areas while others remain clear. We will actively monitor conditions and determine when detours are necessary. These will be posted to the Trinity Metro website as soon as confirmed.
In addition, Trinity Metro TEXRail and Trinity Railway Express will employ rail switch heaters along rail corridors to prevent tracks from freezing. Passengers may notice flames emitting from the tracks, but this is not cause for alarm and is well controlled.
Please stay connected with Trinity Metro for updates. You may follow us on our social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X and Nextdoor) or sign up to receive alerts via email or SMS at https://ridetrinitymetro.org/connectwithus/. For questions about specific routes, riders may call Customer Support and Solutions at 817-215-8600.
If the determination is made to operate as a “Severe Winter Weather” day, all Trinity Metro fixed route bus service will run on a Saturday schedule. Once the decision is made, the services will stay on Saturday schedule for the remainder of the day.
Note that the following routes do not have normal Saturday service, Burnett Plaza Lunch Line, Express Routes 61, 63, 65. These routes will not operate during Severe Winter Weather.
All normal Saturday services will operate as scheduled with the exception of Molly the Trolley, which will not operate.
ROUTING/DETOURS
To the greatest extent possible, operations will follow regular routes. It is not unusual for some portions of the service area to experience icy conditions while others are clear. Operations supervisors will survey the situation and determine if it is safe to use regular routing. However, there are many segments of routes that may be considered too hazardous to traverse in icy conditions and staff have proactively worked out detours to avoid them. Most hazards involve steep slopes and bridges. However, other hazards may include areas that remain shaded thus slowing the ice melt, narrow residential streets with on-street parking, or even shallow slopes with stops where there is insufficient traction to overcome both gravity and inertia. The public will be encouraged to call Customer Support & Solutions to confirm if their route is on detour.
