FTA visits TEXRail, discusses transit initiatives

(FORT WORTH, TX – Sept. 23, 2022) – Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Deputy Administrator Veronica Vanterpool joined Trinity Metro and Grapevine leaders for a discussion about TEXRail and a visit to Grapevine/Main Street Station.

Vanterpool and FTA Region 6 Regional Administrator Gail Lyssy met with Trinity Metro Board Chairman Jeff Davis, President and CEO Richard Andreski, Vice President and COO for Rail Jon-Erik “AJ” Arjanen, Deputy COO for Rail Reed Lanham, Grapevine Council Member and Trinity Metro Board Member Paul Slechta and Executive Director of the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau Paul W. McCallum.

“We had a great visit and talked about our growing ridership, transit-oriented development and our plans for the TEXRail extension to the medical district,” Andreski said.

“We have to do more to bring talent to our area, to reduce traffic congestion and to improve the quality of life in our communities. Public transportation is the solution to all of these challenges. The Federal Transit Administration gets this,” said Jeff Davis.

Slechta and McCallum communicated with FTA representatives about the city’s growth and the economic impact generated by TEXRail through transit-oriented development and tourism.

Service changes coming Sept. 18

Throughout the year, we evaluate our bus routes and look for ways to improve efficiencies and enhance service. We take customer feedback into account and continually look for ways to improve. In keeping with that philosophy to strive for excellence, we are implementing a handful of changes in September.

  • Route 5 Evans Ave/TCC South – Trinity Metro received requests from customers about direct service from downtown to VA Clinic. The route will be extended south of Sierra Vista Transfer Center to go to TCC South campus and VA Clinic on Loop 820 Service Road. Extending Route 5 from Sierra Vista gives better access to customers coming from downtown and going to TCC South or VA Clinic.
  • Route 6 8th Avenue/McCart – Route 6 will be interlined with Route 52 for better efficiency.
  • Route 33 Felix/Oak Grove – The operators on Route 33 found it hard to keep the bus on schedule. To improve on-time performance, the schedule on Route 33 will be adjusted by eliminating the loop on 820 Service Road from all the trips originating from Resource Connection and going westbound to James and Yates. The times at all the timepoints will be adjusted accordingly.
  • Route 52 Hulen – Route 52 will be interlined with Route 6 for better efficiency.
  • Route 53 University – To accommodate the new Permanent Supportive Housing on Quail Trail, and make it accessible for the ADA passengers, Route 53 will traverse along Quail Trail instead of Shenna Blvd.
  • Route 54 Riverside/Sierra Vista – Customers requested  direct service from downtown to VA Clinic. Route 54 modification to end at Sierra Vista gives better access to customers going to VA Clinic by Route 5 and prevent  it from being duplicated.
  • Route 67 TCC Southeast Campus will be replaced with an on-demand rideshare service. Southeast ZIPZONE will serve TCC Southeast in addition to its current destinations that include TCC South, Tarrant County Resource Connection and Fort Worth VA Clinic.
  • Route 91 Normandale/North Side Station – The time on eastbound Route 91 timepoints will be adjusted to meet with Route 2 at Calmont and Green Oaks. This time adjustment will help people transfer from Route 91 to Route 2 and vice versa.

Weather-related delays expected for riders

(FORT WORTH, TX – Aug. 22, 2022) – Today’s heavy rain is impacting Trinity Metro’s bus routes, which is creating delays for riders. In areas with heavier rainfall, buses need to detour and adjust schedules for the safety of our passengers and bus operators. Our buses will continue operating to serve the community.

At this time, North Side Station is temporarily closed to bus traffic.

In addition, TEXRail is operating at reduced speeds for the safety of our passengers and crews. Riders can expect delays throughout the day as the rain continues.

Thank you for your patience.

TEXRail service disruption Tuesday, Aug. 30

TEXRail service will be modified on Tuesday, Aug. 30, while crews replace a grade crossing at Bransford Road in Colleyville to create a more level crossing for motorists. Work will begin at 3 a.m. During that time, a bus bridge will operate between Grapevine/Main Street Station and North Richland Hills/Smithfield Station.

The work, which was originally scheduled for an earlier date, was moved to Aug. 30 because of the forecasted inclement weather. The date was rescheduled for the safety of everyone who will be working on this project.

Trains will run every 30 minutes for the duration of the disruption. Passengers should not experience any significant delays.

The first two trains of the day, which depart from North Side Station at 3:20 a.m. and from Mercantile Center Station at 3:31 a.m., will be canceled.

Heat restrictions for trains expected this afternoon

With a forecasted high temperature of 110 degrees and an excessive heat warning issued by the National Weather Service, the hot weather could have an impact on Trinity Metro rail services this afternoon. The most likely scenario would be heat restrictions on speed, which means that TEXRail and Trinity Railway Express would operate at reduced speeds, which will likely generate schedule delays. The anticipated timeframe is 2-7 p.m. today. Similar conditions are expected tomorrow as well.
